Roundtable on “Barrierless Tolling in India: Towards Efficient, Sustainable & Innovative Infra”
January 15, 2025 | India International Centre (IIC), Lodhi Estate, New Delhi
Primus Partners, in collaboration with Think Infra, hosted a high-impact roundtable discussion on “Barrierless Tolling in India,” bringing together a distinguished group of stakeholders from across the transportation ecosystem. The event aimed to explore a forward-looking roadmap for implementing Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based barrierless tolling solutions across the country.
The event was graced by the Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, who released an approach paper titled “Transitioning to Barrier-less Tolling using GNSS Technology.” The paper outlines strategic pathways and policy directions to help India shift from physical toll plazas to a seamless digital tolling framework.
Key participants included policymakers, technology providers, infrastructure developers, toll operators, legal experts, and user representatives. The roundtable featured insightful deliberations on:
Policy and governance models for nationwide implementation
Global benchmarks and learnings from international tolling systems
Technological architecture for GNSS-based tolling
Legal and regulatory enablers for frictionless adoption
The forum provided an opportunity for participants to collaboratively ideate and co-create actionable strategies, aligning India’s tolling infrastructure with global best practices. The roundtable concluded with a collective call to accelerate innovation, enhance commuter experience, and reduce congestion through digital transformation in tolling.
