In a significant step toward building a future-ready mobility ecosystem, ITS India Forum and the Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation (TiHAN) at IIT Hyderabad have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership aims to accelerate research, real-world testing, and national deployment of intelligent transport systems (ITS) across India.

Collaboration with a Purpose
This MoU brings together TiHAN’s advanced testing and simulation infrastructure with ITS India Forum’s national policy leadership and cross-sectoral network. The two organizations will jointly promote innovation, knowledge exchange, and scalable deployment of smart mobility solutions that align with the Government of India’s Smart Cities Mission, PM Gati Shakti, and the National Logistics Policy.

Key Areas of Collaboration Include:

  • Research and development in Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM) systems
  • Real-time testing of ADAS, V2X communication, and AI-based traffic management platforms
  • Development of indigenous traffic optimization algorithms and digital safety tools
  • Co-authoring whitepapers and technical standards for national ITS interoperability
  • Launch of executive education programs, student fellowships, and innovation challenges

“This partnership will bring lab-scale innovations to real-world applications,” said Dr. Shiv Kumar, Director General of ITS India Forum. Prof. P. Rajalakshmi, Project Director at TiHAN, added, “By uniting academic research with policy and industry outreach, we are helping shape India’s leadership in autonomous mobility.”

The collaboration will kick off with pilot projects focused on AI-enabled traffic signal management, emergency response systems, and intelligent safety applications. A major highlight will be the National Symposium on Urban Autonomy and ITS Innovation, scheduled for Q3 2025.

As India scales up its investment in infrastructure and digital mobility, this strategic alliance marks a pivotal step in building a smarter, safer, and more integrated transport future.
